5th/6th Grade Biology

This course explores the amazing world of living things! Students will gain a basic understanding of how life works, from the tiniest cell to the largest animal, through guided lessons and discussions and hands-on exploration with the goal to spark curiosity and begin to build a foundation in life science. Lessons include educational videos to introduce and explain key concepts, hands-on activities, and exploration. Topics include cells, photosynthesis, plant parts, protists, and animal groups Students will participate in simple hands-on and exploration activities such as:

• Collecting local plant samples and observing them under a microscope
• Viewing cells and microbes up close Building creative models of plant and animal cells
• Sorting and classifying animals based on traits and features
